Use Passwave for real verification. One person, one account. Don't attack it or cheat it. Passwave Plus isn't live yet; when it launches it will be €1.99/month and you can cancel anytime. We work hard to keep Passwave reliable, and you can leave whenever you like.
1. The deal
These terms are an agreement between you and Passwave Ltd. By creating an account or using the app, you accept them. Verifying with your document's chip is free for individuals, and always will be. If your document has no readable chip, you can verify through a traditional identity check instead for a fee, currently €3.99 per check.
You must be at least 16 to use the Passwave app, or older where your country's law requires it. If you're using Passwave on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.
2. Your account
Your account lives on our servers, and you sign in with your email address (we send a one-time link) or a social sign-in. Whichever you use is the key to your Passwave account, so keep it secure: anyone who can read your email or use that social account can sign in as you. If your device is lost or stolen, contact us and we'll secure the account.
One person, one account. When you verify, we keep a one-way hash derived from your document, so an attempt to enrol the same document again is recognised and refused. However it's done, holding more than one account as one person breaks these terms.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Passwave to break the law or to help anyone else do so. Some things break these terms whether or not they break the law: verifying with a document that isn't yours, trying to defeat the selfie check, probing or attacking our systems outside our security programme, and letting anyone else use your account or your proofs, whether shared or sold.
Found a vulnerability? That's welcome - report it under the security programme and we'll credit you. Exploiting it is not.
4. Passwave Plus
Passwave Plus is not available yet, and nothing in the app charges you today. When it launches it will be an optional subscription at €1.99 per month that gives you full control over which sites can send you what types of messages through Passwave. It will renew monthly until you cancel, and you will be able to cancel any time in the app or directly with Google or Apple - cancellation stops the next charge, and Plus stays active until the period you've paid for ends.
Refunds on Plus work the same for everyone, wherever you live: change your mind within 14 days of first subscribing and you get a full refund, and where your local law gives you more than that, you keep it. Prices, including the identity-check fee, may change with at least 30 days' notice; a change never applies to a period you've already paid for. Everything free stays free. See pricing.
Plus will be sold through the app, so payment is handled by Apple or Google: your app store runs the checkout, issues your receipt, and appears on your statement, and we never see your card details. How cancellation works and how to get a refund are set out in the refund policy.
5. For websites
Integrating Passwave into a website or app? Those rules have their own document. See the Developer terms (and, where you process personal data, the data protection section of those terms). In short: use answers only for the purpose the user consented to, never re-identify a user from the hashes we return, and honour a user's decision to disconnect.
6. Availability & liability
We work hard to keep Passwave available and accurate, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted or error-free. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death, personal injury, or fraud caused by us.
Beyond that, our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss. If you're a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected, including any right to compensation under data protection law.
7. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time. For now that's done by email, through the data requests page: we confirm it's you, then your answers, your hashes, your face vector, and the ID details we hold for you are deleted within one calendar month, usually much sooner. We can suspend an account while we investigate a suspected breach of these terms, and close one for a clear breach, if the law requires us to, or if we ever retire the service. We also hold an account back from verification if the ID it presented showed the holder was under 16, until the date they turn 16, and if it showed they were under 13 we close the account instead. Whichever it is, we'll tell you why and give as much notice as we can, unless the law prevents it.
See the privacy policy for exactly what deletion removes and the one minimal billing record a law may require us to keep.
8. Changes & law
We'll update the date above when these terms change and flag material changes in the app before they take effect. For everyday changes, continuing to use Passwave after the notice means you accept them. Where a change is significant enough to need your agreement, the app will ask for it rather than assume it - and if you don't accept an update, you can delete your account.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts - without taking away any protection your local law gives you as a consumer. If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. Questions:
